I’ve officially decided to take a break from blogging…this is no new announcement if you’ve checked for a blog update every now and then…Ifind I am not having much to say and am having difficulty maintaining the website. I feel like the website is kind of klunky, full…you m ay not see it on the front end, but I can see it in some of the “new” pages I started that I haven’t been able to finish or keep up with. I think I need to start fresh and more simply. I would love to maintain a website professionally, but I am not finding the time to do so now…

Reading

I realized recently that I am a professional reader. In my job with the state, I read. All day. Read application, read transcript, read accreditation list, read rules, read application, read certification, read experience history, read application, read between the lines, read Act, read mail, read phone message, read letter.

I like to read, it’s not a bad gig.

Small Talk

I’m not very good at small talk. When we go to family functions or visit someone, I usually let someone else steer the coversation. Most often, I rely on Lynn to be our conversationist and communicator.

The reason for this is not shyness; I ‘m not shy. I’m selfish. I’m too focused on myself to actually think about someone else and what’s going on in their life and ask them about it.

When I was in college (or maybe it was high school) I memorized this passage from Philippians 2 to help me with it:

3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. (Philippians 2:3,4)

I noticed a marked difference in my ability to conversate when I am practicing this verse. It also goes hand in hand with my prayer life. When I pray about something, I am invested and I ask about it.

tenth

Today Lynn and I enter into our tenth year of marriage. It has been a great 9 years. We have 3 beautiful daughters. We live in a nice house in a nice subdivision. The Lord is meeting our needs financially.

We have learned to laugh together, how to push each other’s buttons, and how to live together. We like to spend a lot of time together. Doing things together is a love language of mine. Lynn likes gifts and cards. (And flowers).

I think the next 9 years are going to be even better. The girls are a bit older and we’ll be able to do more as a family, also the girls will be able to do more for themselves. The teenage years are still a while off.

Looking forward to all that God has in store.

Politics

I’m not really an expert on politics. I like to listen to talk radio so I can hear challenges to the way the news is presented in the media- so I can hear different points of view about the significance of current events. I have some concerns about the charges against our president and his “Socialist” agenda. Socialism doesn’t sound like a good idea to me. But what stops me from being more upset about it is James 1:27. James says pure and faultless religion is to look out for orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Can I just tell you something that bothers me? I get really annoyed when people call something a mute point. It’s MOOT point. Look it up.
